Living the Spring Festival in Trujillo

Trujillo is known as the City of Eternal Spring because of its warm weather all year long, but at the end of September and first days of October, it does not only really starts this season, but also the Spring Festival is held, celebration considered as emblematic of this beautiful city.

Trujillo is known as the City of Eternal Spring due to its colors and warm weather.

This festival is one of the most important in the country and for more than sixty years, it attracts both national and international tourists, due to its various activities and of course, its colors, dances, typical dishes and characteristic beauty.

The main attraction of this festival is a traditional corso or spring parade in which allegorical floats compete in the decoration, surprising year after year with its ingenuity and creativity. There is also held a famous competition for beauty queens, for both adults and girls, who belong to the different emblematic clubs of the city, and which is also attended by special guests from all over the continent. It is worth to mention that on several occasions, this coronation has served as an excuse for raising funds to help different organizations.

The allegorical floats competition is one of the main attractions in the festival.

The interest in helping is part of the spirit of this celebration, since most of the events were also created for charitable purposes, such as “La noche de moda trujillana”, a fashion show in which Peruvian fashion designers participate, and where any money raised is destined for a charity goal.

Cultural and artistic events are, of course, part of these holidays. Competitions of marinera (typical dance of Trujillo), demonstrations of Peruvian Paso horses, poetry readings, troupes, musical bands and contests of all type flood the schedule of the city. It is for this reason that the last few years has been declared a holiday within this celebration.

Competitions of marinera are part of the festival’s schedule.
